There is something so oddly satisfying about watching high-strung, wealthy white moms plan school fundraisers in immaculate homes. It’s why I loved Big Little Lies, and more recently, The Undoing. Where the former gave me ocean views from minimalist, sweeping balconies on the West Coast, the latter had me in the marble and chandelier-laden rooms of Upper East Side walk-ups. In both, I’m watching Nicole Kidman as the tortured wife of an undecidedly abusive husband trapped in a murder mystery (unsurprising since David E. Kelley is behind both shows).

The Undoing, a five-episode HBO miniseries based on the 2014 novel You Should Have Known, centers on the mental distress of psychotherapist Grace Fraser (Kidman) after her famed oncologist husband (Hugh Grant) is accused of murdering another mom at the school (with whom he’s having an affair).
